Iceland

My first trip to Iceland, pictures, route and some insights.

Iceland is a nature lover’s paradise. Same goes for a landscape photographer. The nature in Iceland is just out of this world. It’s just remarkable how diverse the topography is, for a relatively small island. It’s also a great location if you want to get away from people. You could be driving for hours without meeting a single car. In this post I want to talk about some of the experience and some of the practicalities of travelling in Iceland.

A Trip to Swedish Lapland

A week long winter roadtrip from Uppsala, Sweden to Narvik, Norway through the pristine taiga landscapes of Swedish Lapland in search of snow, auroras and wildlife.

I finally had the opportunity to go to Swedish Lapland this year. Lapland feels completely different between summer and winter. Winter is special for many reasons, firstly my fondness of snow (and loads of it), northern lights (oh yeah), snow animals (reindeer, huskies), snow sports (ski, snowboard) and lastly the alpine landscape.

Hamra National Park

Hamra National Park is 14 sq km of wide open marshlands, woods, forests, streams and rugged trails. Founded in 1909, Hamra national park is one of the oldest preserved forests in Sweden.

Hamra national park (NP) is one of sweden’s nine oldest national parks, located at the western edge of the Gävleborg municipality (Kommune). We took a 2-day trip in the last week of August. The drive from Uppsala to Hamra takes about 4.5 hours. We stayed at the STF accomodation in the nearest village called Fågelsjö. The house is nice and comfy with several bedrooms and a pretty lawn. This was the off-season which meant that we had the whole house to ourselves. Hamra NP is a short drive away from Fågelsjö.
